Which Way Is The Right Way? [Toilet Paper]

July 31, 2008

I’ve never really cared which way the toilet paper unfolds: over or under, it doesn’t matter as long as there is paper, that’s the important part.

Not long ago, during a conversation with a couple we are friends with we found out that throughout their marriage they’ve had endless fights about the issue; he likes it one way, she likes it the other way. I was surprised to find out there is people who actually care about it and argue about it.

Some think under is the right way others think above is the right way. The guys a Current Configuration did some R&D and arrived to the conclusion over is the right way it is supposed to be. I leave you with a pretty graphic explanation of their study. There is also a Hanger Brochure (PDF) for those who would like to conveniently print it out and place it wherever is needed. Very clever indeed.

Blog Stats [Are They Real?]

Ahh, stats, numbers…we love numbers, especially when those numbers are about you and even more if those numbers make you feel good. By the way, I failed statistics in school, so I’m not very happy with the subject.

But I’m talking about blog stats, are they real?; if you have a blog, have you ever thought that maybe those numbers are computer generated just to make you feel good?, after all there is no way for you to prove that some dude in Kazakhstan is actually reading your stupid blog. Think about it.

According to this blog stats I got over 1,000 visits in July…1,000 really? I don’t even know that many people that could possibly read my blog. Even is someone left a comment, unless I personally know that someone how do I know for sure that someone is a real person? Maybe there is a like an ultra-super-secret comments agency that is in charge of visiting and leaving comments in blogs from all around the world so that bloggers feel good about themselves and keep blogging and make you feel like you belong and all sorts of ridiculous senseless stuff.

“IT’S A CONSPIRACY MAN!” – My point is, I don’t think I believe in those stats because there is no way for me to prove they are real, unless my friend from Kazakhstan leaves me a comment and sends me a picture of him reading my blog…are you reading this Kazakhstan dude?

Strap-A-Handle [That Was My Idea]

July 29, 2008

I’m no inventor but sometimes I like to think of new ideas and dream about making millions and being famous, yes I know, lame.

Three years ago we were in Indonesia and I literally woke up with this idea of a “thing” with a handle that you could attach to anything and help carry it easier, especially those things that don’t have handles and are a bit awkward to grab/carry. I never saw anything like it before and I thought it could be a good useful product in many areas. I couldn’t go back to sleep so laid in bed for a couple of hours thinking about all the details, it was fun, at the end the product in my head evolved to something different from what the initial thought was.

That what you see in the picture is the exact same thing I had on my mind, I never heard about this product until today, it is called Strap-A-Handle and that’s what my idea looked like in my head. I was curious to find out when they came up with the idea so I did a little Google Patent Search and a different device came up which was patented in 1986, I don’t know if these two are related but both products represent the same idea.

So, I guess my idea wasn’t that unique after all, but I got really excited when I thought about it and dreamed of making big bucks with my idea, I hope the guys from Strap-A-Handle are.

I think it is harder to think of new ideas these days, there is almost an invention for everything. Maybe we should hit the “reset everything” button and start all over again.

I Did It, Finally [White Castle]

July 22, 2008

If there is a restaurant that could be as divisive as the politics between republicans and democrats that restaurant is White Castle. People either love or hate the place and its famous (or infamous) slyders.

I’ve been living in Minnesota for 5 years now and never placed a foot in that joint, Carolyn says eating there is more degrading than eating at KFC, however, I’m from way south and I don’t know why, but we like fried chicken.

Never being able to give my opinion [not that it matters] when lovers and haters argue about White Castle, I knew I had to do something about it. So, yesterday I drove to one and took the step of faith. I didn’t know what to order so I just got two bacon cheeseburger (see picture). I knew the slyders were small but I was surprised to actually see how small they were, no wonder people order 5+, I downed the two in about 2 minutes…it was fun.

So, what do I think about it, well…everyday I’m more convinced I should become Swiss, I usually find a way to stay in neutral grounds during divisive arguments. White Castle will not probably be my place of choice whenever I’m hungry, but they are not as disgusting or gross as haters make it sound like. One thing was obvious though, the ingredients were the lowest quality ingredients you could ever get, plus, I checked the nutritional information today and I’m thankful I only ate two of them…But they are really fun to eat, so small:-)
