Tech Support Call

June 30, 2008

Actual call from Tech Support, not me though…although I get this kind of calls many times too…enjoy

—————————————–

Me: “Thank you for calling ***. How can I help you?”

Customer: “My computer don’t work.”

Me: “I’m sorry to hear that, ma’am. Can I get the serial number off of your CPU?”

Customer: “My what?”

Me: “The computer tower.”

Customer: “Huh?”

(I’ll spare you the agony but, I went on for about 3 more minutes trying to describe the CPU and getting nowhere.)

Me: “I’m sorry, I don’t seem to be expressing myself well today. Can you describe to me all the computer parts on your desk? I’ll tell you which one the number I need is on.”

Customer: “It’s just a keyboard and a screen, like any other computer.”

Me: “Oh, you have a laptop!”

Customer: “A what?”

Me: “A little computer you can take with you. The keyboard and screen fold together with a hinge in the middle, right?”

Customer: “No, I don’t! I don’t know what is wrong with you computer people today. First the sales guy tries to sell me a bunch of sh*t I don’t need in this big box package and now you don’t even know what a computer is! Brand new today and it don’t even work.”

Me: “So…you just bought a keyboard and a monitor?”

Customer: “What’d I need all the rest uh’ that sh*t in the box for? This was way cheaper! I ain’t stupid!”

Me: “…”

Controlled Demolition In Our Backyard

June 28, 2008

Last night I found out the power plant stack in downtown St. Paul was going to be demolished, right away I knew I had to be there. There is something about watching big structures being blown up, we humans like destruction.

The stack is was located just half a mile or less from our home. Demolition time was scheduled for 7:30am; got up early and hopped on my bike with my camera and tripod and rode to the High Bridge to witness the action.

I got there half an hour before demolition time and there was a lot of people on the bridge and surrounding streets already, but it wasn’t full yet, I got a sweet spot right next to the guy from the demolition company who was taping the demolition. I set up my stuff and waited. A few minutes later the whole sidewalk was packed. At 7:30am it was showtime, forget fireworks that was freaking awesome, I was so close the video doesn’t make justice to how close I was, I was so close, that a few seconds later after the stack fell I was wondering if that was a good idea because all the dust was coming our way. People started freaking out and it matters of seconds everybody left. I had no choice but to get down and cover my nose. Fortunately it was pretty windy, in just a few minutes it was clear. Enjoy the video and See the pictures for more details.

It is worth mentioning this stack was 570 ft tall.

Random Thoughts

June 27, 2008

  • I haven’t had Chipotle in a while, I want some.
  • I love rainy days.
  • Next week we are going to Duluth, MN. It should be a really cool and short vacation.
  • I think Facebook it’s really stupid sometimes but it’s pretty cool to reconnect with old friends.
  • I want to travel so bad, I feel I’ve been at the same place for too long. By travel I mean internationally and other countries than Venezuela.
  • I can’t stop wondering how is life going to be after October.
  • It worries me all my random thoughts start with “I”

Chipotle Vs. Qdoba [Let The Fight Begin]

June 26, 2008

In previous posts I’ve written about my fierce obsession loyalty to Chipotle. I could seriously eat Chipotle everyday and never get tired of it, maybe not so much, I once said the same thing about my favorite pizza place, until I worked there for a summer, by the end I would gag at the thought of eating pizza there.

So yea, I really like Chipotle. Then there is Qdoba which is sort of a Chipotle spin-off. I once read that it was founded by some Chipotle ex-employees, I don’t know if that’s true or not. Anyways, each restaurant has its own crowd, some say Chipotle is better others say Qdoba is. I couldn’t think of anything better than Chipotle so we went to Qdoba last weekend to give it a try (sorry Chipotle, I had to).

Round 1 – First impression: I like the atmosphere at a Chipotle better, it has more coolness to it. The menu at Qdoba is too franchise-like, a lot of options, I think part of Chipotle’s success is its simple menu, two, three things and that’s it, do those things the best you can, boom!, everyone loves it.

Round 2 – Ordering: the guys at Qdoba were absolutely not happy to be there, they had the attitude of a kid being forced to tend the family business. The burrito assembly was disappointing, all the ingredients were just dumped in the very center of the tortilla, basically most of the time I was just eating rice and then all the sudden a big mix of all ingredients together. Burritos at Chipotle are prepared with more care, ingredients are evenly distributed, so you get a little bit of everything in every bite.

Round 3 – Flavor: Bland. Both Carolyn and I said it at the same time, yes, Chipotle has way more flavor and Chipotle’s chips are better too.

Round 4 – Qdoba Positives: Qdoba’s salsa verde is really good, it just like real mexican salsa verde. I was also impressed that Qdoba keeps their chips in a warmer, nice touch (yea Chipotle, what’s up with that?)

Final (and most important) Round – Guacamole…The Golden Boy, The Big Kahuna, The Promised One (you know what I’m trying to say): Absolutely Nothing compares to Chipotle’s Guac and I have to admit Qdoba’s it just as good, too bad their chips are not as good.

And the winner is… I think I’m sticking with Chipotle for the time being, nice try Qdoba but not good enough and like Ricky Bobby’s dad said: “If you are not first, you are last”

Another American vs. Latino Look Alike: George Clooney vs. Saul Lisazo

June 23, 2008

I’m starting to think I’m onto something here. Maybe I broke The Matrix, I’m not quite sure yet, back in January I posted about the striking resemblance between Anderson Cooper and Jorge Ramos, they both work for major news agencies and they look alike, just check out their pictures in the post I wrote if you don’t believe me. The big question is what are the chances of that? and what are the chances that it would happen again?.

Now I give you George Clooney and Saul Lisazo, they are both famous actors in their own turf. I mean Saul is not as nearly as famous as George Clooney but if you ask any latina soup-opera-watcher they will melt as soon as you mention his name. He usually plays the knight-in-shining-armor roles, and no, I don’t watch soup operas, he is just a pretty guy.

But seriously, what are the chances of that? or maybe there is no chance involved and there is actually something fishy going on. Maybe every renowned American personality has its own Latino counterpart, I don’t know but I’m working on a conspiracy theory here. One thing is for sure, I find another American/Latino look-alikes and I’m calling Agent Scully
